A LITTLE LIFE UPDATE…

Hello everyone! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I love coming along to this little space to pour out my thoughts and feelings, but life has been so manic recently that I haven’t had time to sit still, let alone sit down and blog!

So grab a drink, get comfortable and let’s have a little catch up shall we?

Our home

As you may have seen, we are continuing with the house updates. For someone that likes to tick things off a to do list decorating a house is not good, as there is ALWAYS something else to be done. However I’m learning to live in the moment more, appreciate it’s a work in progress, and look at the positives.

We have started painting the summerhouse, and I’m really looking forward to making this super snazzy with a funky rug, some comfy outdoor seating, fairy lights and (if I’m lucky) a very aesthetically pleasing bar cart. Keep your eyes peeled as we’ll be doing a blog post on it soon, but for now you can follow the updates on my Instagram’s ‘Garden’ Highlights, or head over to the interior section of my blog to check out some of the makeovers we’ve done so far!

We also have the front bedroom to decorate still. This is the only room in the house that’s been untouched since we’ve moved in (apart from a deep clean ofc!) and is currently being used as a dressing/laundry room. It’s the smallest bedroom, but is also home to a great built in wardrobe so is ideal for extra storage. I’m really keen to get a nice daybed in here, but I just can’t decide on the colour scheme…

The blog

As I mentioned I haven’t been that hot on sharing regularly on here anymore. I often wonder if people still like to read blogs – what with the rise in Instagram being used as a ‘blogging’ platform with increasingly lengthy captions being favoured (yes I am one of those people who gets annoyed when people say they’re a blogger and only have an Instagram account SOZ) I found myself wondering if people really have the time to read posts like this. For me personally, I love Instagram, but find delving into someone’s blog much more personal; it connects me more with the individual behind it and I find it a more engaging experience.

So with that in mind, I will try and update this blog more – however I’m very conscious of sticking to one of my goals for 2019 which is to blog how I want, when I want!

A few exciting things have happened recently with regards to my blog, including an interview with BBC Essex about what it means to be an ‘Essex Girl’ (skip to 51 minutes to hear my part!) and meeting up with local blogger Debs from Bang on Style to shoot some content together. It’s so nice to meet online ‘friends’ in the flesh and is one of the things I love about blogging; making new connections and learning/inspiring each other. I realise that probably sounds cliché AF but it’s true!

Me

And finally, little old me! Well, if I’m honest things haven’t been amazing for me recently; I’ve not been sleeping well due to having bad flare ups with my eczema, which in turn has left me feeling constantly exhausted and pretty stressed. Finding a balance in life is something I struggle with at times, and as a hot-headed person (yes I’m a Scorpio) I find I naturally carry a lot of tension around with me too.

I try and practice self care as much as I can, whether it’s using headspace or tucking into a good book, but at the moment I’m feeling a little overwhelmed with the feeling life is just rushing past and I’m running out of time. No idea WHAT I’m running out of time for exactly, as there isn’t anything specific, but it’s a hard feeling to explain! I guess I’m just more aware of how quickly time passes the older I get, which scares me a little.

So a few of the things I’ve been doing recently include…

  • Going to gym twice a week to release stress and get the good endorphins going! (but equally not beating myself up if I don’t go)
  • Indulging in treatments that help my wellbeing, including reflexology and massages
  • Taking more long walks/getting outside as much as possible
  • Refining who I’m following on Instagram and only following accounts I actually enjoy, as well as cutting down on screen time
  • Trying to eat less of the foods that flare up my eczema but guess what people cutting out cheese is hard as hell haha
  • Living in the moment more and appreciating the now – more on that here!

Other than that, things are good – I’m very lucky to have an amazing support network of Matt, family and friends around me to help when I’m feeling a little wobbly.

So what’s new in your lives? Update me in the comments!

Gorgeous words from our gorgeous gal – big respect for putting how you feel out there, Harriet :0) I TOTALLY get what you mean about that hyper-awareness of time as we get older but think you are doing everything you can to be mindful and zen about it.

Next blog request – cards against humanity, Disney style and the power of girl friendships in your vintage 20s?

Aw thank you Tammy bear! Very kind of you to comment. It is so frustrating as the years seem to fly by – but a bit of meditation definitely helps me to be more present. Love that request!! xx

Thank you Hannah! The same for me. I love reading blogs too and think it’s a bit more personal than a long insta caption. If a caption is too long on insta I tend to skip through and just like the pic, but on people’s websites I am there to read so I’m definitely more invested! xxx

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
