My skin is terribly sensitive – I have suffered from eczema all my life and have bad allergies that can cause flare ups at the worst of times (oh HEY puffy red eyes before a night out), so I have to be careful not to use anything too strong.
It has curbed my addiction to buying things because of their pretty packaging, which has not worked out well for me in the past…
‘It’s got little roses on it – aww!’
‘…IT BURNS SO BAD’
Through a lot of trial and error I have finally found a selection of products that don’t upset my skin, and I thought i’d share a few of them with you!
There’s nothing worse than cracked lips, so I am always on the lookout for balms that have a bit of lasting power. The Argan + Soothing Lip Balm is ideal for this, as it’s packed with soothing rose and argan oil. If I’m wearing a matte lipstick, I use this underneath too to avoid the lipstick drying out my lips.
Almond & Honey Range, The Body Shop
I stumbled upon this range on my way home from shopping, having promised myself I would not visit one more shop in fear of my purse imploding. And then I passed The Body Shop. Not only does it smell SO GOOD in there, it’s always got something to lure me in (I see you, nude lipsticks!).
I explained to the consultant that I am massive fan of oatmeal masks to calm down my skin, so she told me this would be an ideal product range to try. I decided to test the hand cream and the body exfoliator first. The hand cream didn’t leave my hands red – so instantly I was sold – and the exfoliator was abrasive enough to leave my skin feeling smooth, but not irritated. I loved the products so much, I’ve since gone back and bought the body lotion. It smells so summery and gorgeous!
My skin is such a THIRSTY bitch, I am forever battling with it being dry. I make sure every night that I put on a deep moisturising mask, but it usually results in me still waking up with flakes all over my face #SEXY. However, I got this product as a Christmas present and absolutely love it. I smother it over my face every night and my skin still feels soft in the morning – perfect! It’s a little on the pricey side, and the rate I cake it onto my face is nothing short of sickening, but it is totally worth it in my eyes. It’s a mix between a serum and a lotion, and with ‘extended thirst relief’ on the package, it really does do what it says on the tin*!
*Sorry, Moisture Surge. You’re so much more than a tin.
Vitamin E Face Mist, The Body Shop
I love The Body Shop so much I’ve included them twice! I’ve used this product for years and it’s now become a staple part of my beauty regime. With refreshing rosewater, the scent isn’t overly powerful but it’s really calming. I lightly spritz it on my face throughout the day to give my skin a boost, but it’s also really great for setting make up too.
Vaseline, you inoffensive, hand bag must-have, you. Whether you want to use it as a lip balm, moisturiser or to help your eyelashes grow (I mean, does that really work?!) it’s so versatile and that’s what I love about it. Also, it has never caused my skin to flare up so you could say we are a match made in petroleum jelly heaven. I usually go for the good ole’ original blue, purely because the red one does not look so good smeared about my eyelids.
